Volunteers are a vital part to the success of the Evanston History Center.  We are always looking for new volunteers who are interested in sharing history with others.

Currently we are seeking volunteers in the following areas:

Docents and Visitor Services

Volunteers will help with tours of the Charles Gates Dawes House, school group tours, large group tours and assist other Museum visitors. Both day time and weekend hours are available.

Research Room

If you have an interest in local history and/or training in libraries and archives, we need your help staffing our Research Room. Applicants should have an enthusiastic, customer-service attitude as their primary responsibility will be to assist visitors with their research projects. Applicants should have some computer skills and be able to lift boxes weighing 20 lbs.

Volunteers will work with staff on organizing and processing collection materials and will sometimes help with exhibits.

Development Volunteers

Museum Administration

Volunteers will help behind the scenes and will contribute to the museum management and administration.

We request that you are willing to commit to at least one-year of volunteering with the Evanston History Center.  Weekly and hourly commitment is negotiable and varies depending on the volunteer position.
